McKenzie Phillips Allegedly Arrested On Drug Charges

One Day at a Time actress, Mckenzie Phillips, 48, was arrested this morning at Los Angeles International Airport on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance.  She is being held in custody at LAX after security screeners allegedly found “what appeared to be heroin and cocaine” in her possession. Her agent had no comment on the incident. 

Phillips has had a long history of drug abuse. She was fired from sitcom One Day at a Time over 26 years ago because of her drug addiction. She would blow through her $47,500 weekly salary from her sitcom to buy drugs, and soon found herself looking for quarters to buy food.

Her addiction has been no secret as she has publicly spoken about her battle with drugs and her sobriety. 

In 1994, she turned her life around and appeared as a drug counselor on 90210. A few years after that, she starred on the Disney show, So Weird, saying the network’s producers accepted her baggage. She most recently appeared in a 2007 episode of Cold Case.

She also has a 21 year old son, Shane, who I am sure is affected by all of this.
